Academic & Staff Personnel Overview
The Academic & Staff Personnel team assists faculty with merits and promotions, leaves of absence, and sabbaticals. We are also available to assist with recruitment procedures and hiring academic staff positions. Our team assists with these titles: Lecturers, Postdoctoral Scholars, Visiting Scholars, and without salary appointments. We also work with SISS to help obtain the appropriate visa for candidates that may require one. For more information and resources, please see the links below. Please email bcpersonnel@ucdavis.edu with questions.
- Leaves of Absence
- Leaves- For personal leaves, leaves for professional development, leaves to attend professional meetings, or leaves for other University business, Department Chairs may approve the leave if the absence is for 7 calendar days or less. Please use the following LINK to fill out the 7 days or less leave form. If the leave is more than 7 days, please contact our academic personnel staff to initiate a Professional Development Leave request through MIV. - Sabbaticals- Please discuss with your department Chair/Director to work out coverage for teaching prior to submitting your request to the Personnel team.
- Postdocs
- You are not required to post a job opening for postdocs. You are free to search for a candidate on your own--once you've found someone, the Personnel team can start the hiring process. Appointments should be for at least 1 year at 100%. Please notify the Personnel team at least 3 months before the anticipated start date (6 months if a visa is required) if you're interested in hiring a postdoctoral scholar. We can provide you with a template department letter. Please note that the letter will need to be approved by Graduate Studies and the candidate must complete all onboarding paperwork with HR before they can begin working.
- Visiting Scholars
- Please notify the Personnel team by email at least 90 days prior to the arrival of the Visiting Scholar so that the SISS Department has sufficient time to process the J-1 visa request. The Personnel team will be able to provide you with a template for the scholar invitation letter.
